All Expeditions begin with a Familiarisation Day
Day 1
Bang Bao – Koh Klum – Koh Wai (18 km)
From the beach we are afforded a panoramic view of the Islands that await us. Once we have packed our kayaks and orientated ourselves we set out for the western tip of Koh Klum, an open water crossing of 7km. Before you know it, the first of numerous Islands has been reached. After a little rock hopping and exploration we arrive at our Lunch spot (packed)
Having eaten and had a swim we continue our journey to Koh Wai. The crossing to Koh Wai is a 4km crossing and is done in only a short time. On arriving on the West coast we turn left along the north coast. Our first destination on Koh Wai is the aptly named Paradise Beach which serves up the best coffee and fantastic snorkelling.
From this point we contour around the South coast for 4km to our resort for the night, Koh Wai Beach Resort. Facilities include Wifi, Hot showers, A/C and restaurant.
Day 2
Koh Wai – Koh Kra – Koh Rang Yai and Circumnavigation (23 km)
Departing Koh Wai we look South West over the open sea towards Koh Rang. Koh Rang Yai is a protected National Park island inhabited only by the Thai navy. 9Km of open sea lies ahead of us before we land at the idyllic Koh Kra. It would be wrong not to stop and snorkel in the crystal clear waters of this stunning island.
From Koh Kra, a short 2Km paddle gets us to the turquoise bay, where we will spend the night, in our spacious, well kept Military surplus tents. We camp just off the beaches edge, a wonderful contrast from all the other evenings accommodation, which provides a great outdoor experience. Here we will have lunch (packed).
After lunch we unload our kayaks, ready to kayak light. We now have the opportunity (optional) to explore the island further. Circumnavigating Koh Rang Yai is a delight, with interesting rock formations and wild flora, it is a sea kayaker’s heaven. This final section of the days paddle adds 10 km on to the days total, but it’s worth every stroke.
When we arrive back to camp, the tents will be up and ready to occupy and the coffee (real coffee) will be in the pot. To facilitate a good nights sleep, S.E.A.Kayaking provide inflatable pillows and airbed.
Day 3
Koh Rang Yai – Koh Mak (12 km)
A morning of underwater exploration awaits us. Just around the corner from our departure are two, first class snorkel spots. A deep water entry allows us VIP access to the beautiful coral reefs and huge shoals of fish. After our exploration we re-enter our kayaks and head towards Koh Mak. With a breathtaking northerly view of the islands visited so far and the ones still to come, this crossing is one to remember. As we approach the west tip of Koh Mak, Lava Tubes and caves await. One last push into Koh Mak’s southern bay brings us to our place of rest for the evening and day 4 (rest day).
Once unpacked and showered we head for Lunch (restaurant) and additional information about the Island and its attractions. We meet next for evening meal. If you wish to use the kayaks during the afternoon and rest day that is not a problem (see booking conditions)
Our Resort provides a perfect location with stunning views, close access to the local cafes, restaurants and bars and great facilities.
Day 4 – Rest Day
Koh Mak is the most beautiful of all the islands(my opinion) and exploring it is very easy. If you choose to get out and about you have various options for transport including Taxi, motorbike (moped), bicycle and of course on foot.
Day 5
Koh Mak – Koh Kham – Koh Bai Dang – Koh Chan – Koh Maisi Yai – Koh Ngam (22 km)
Koh Mak-Koh – Koh Bia Dang – Koh Ngam 22 km
Making our way around the west coast of Koh Mak, we take advantage of every opportunity to play and develop our kayaking skills, Lava Tubes, Caves, rock hopping and when the sea is moving wonderful waves. We continue to contour across the Northern bay to our Lunch spot at Happy days Restaurant.
After lunch we continue to follow the coastline until its northern tip, from here we head due North to Koh Bai Dang (6km open water crossing), where we will play on the West coast.
The final leg of our journey takes us to Koh Ngam and our stunning Island camping spot, for the night. The crossing from Koh Bai Dang to Koh Ngam is only 4.5km.
The camp site on Koh Ngam is run by the Navy, the same as Koh Rang and as such our tents will be set up for us on arrival. To facilitate a good nights sleep S.E.A. kayaking will provide inflatable pillows and mattress. Evening meal and breakfast will be prepared by S.E.A.Kayaking staff.
There is an optional Hotel upgrade available at 3000THB per room. The resort is situated just across the bay.
Day 6
Koh Ngam – Salak Phet – Bang Bao (20km)
Setting out north across the bay to Koh Chang, we then, keeping Koh Chang on our right contour our way to Salak Phet Bay via Koh Phrao Nol and Koh Phrao Nai, from the northern tip of Koh Phrao Nai we kayak into the mangrove river for a short excursion. From here we then head for lunch in Salak Phet (restaurant).
After Lunch we kayak out of Salak phet bay and head due west along the south coast of Koh Chang, stopping at Wai Chaek Beach along the way, before coming into Bang Bao and our resort.
Day 7
Koh Chang – West Coast = 14.5 km
The west coast of Koh Chang has some of the best rock formations in the National Park. With 5Km of inaccessible coastline ahead, our journey up the west coast offers us ample opportunity to express ourselves. Gliding between rocks, carving turns testing our skills against the waves, there are challenges for all abilities during this first section of the day.
Alas the excitement ends as we make our way around, Bailan Bay headland, one last flurry of interest presents itself as there are several shallow caves that have extensive bat populations. Lunch on Lonely Beach (restaurant), is our next port of call. The remaining 4km back to The Emerald Cove offers us a time to reflect on our journey and revel in our achievement.
