Coach Fest 2019 ฿4500 per day

21 Oct 2019 - 25 Oct 2019

Costing ฿4500 per day, our annual Coach Fest offers a range of sessions, include practical on the water sessions, lectures, workshops and evening presentations. This event is the only one of its kind in South East Asia and as such attracts a lot of interest.

We appreciate that most kayakers attending the Coach Fest will not be bringing kayaks with them so we provide quality boats and associated equipment to all participants at no additional charge for the duration of the symposium. However, we only have sufficient kayaks and equipment to accommodate 10 people per week.

Note that during this week we will run the Sea kayak Award on the 21 & 22 October and the Sea Kayak Leader (training) + Coastal Navigation and Tidal Planning on the 23, 24 & 25 October.

Please identify the activities you are interested in below and they will be reserved for you when you book on the Coach Fest.

On The Water Sessions:

Close Quarter Manoeuvring
If going in close to rocks when there is a bit of swell and tidal movement, it is essential to fully understand the environment, the effect the water will have on the kayak and how this can be used to help with manoeuvring to avoid hazards.
Compound Strokes and Linkage
When close quarter manoeuvring in among rocks, aim to have a constantly ‘active’ paddle blade. Keeping control of how much pressure there is on the blade; will ensure that you always have the ability to instantly be in control of the kayak. Maintaining an active blade relies on the kayaker’s ability to link strokes. During this session we examine the different parts of the common strokes and then look how to mix and match the components to make our kayaks dance across the water.
Towing
The reasons for having to tow someone are boundless, as are the methods of towing. This session is all about exploring the different type of tows, how and when they would be used. Making the decision to tow someone suggests that things are not going to plan, so the right decisions need to be made.
Safety and Rescues
Rescues are an important skill for a competent kayaker, whether you are the one rescuing or being rescued. This session is all about practicing a variety of rescues in different controlled conditions, to increase your armoury, ensuring you are far more capable of affecting an appropriate rescue.
Rolling Clinic
The aim is of the session is to try and get everyone rolling, this we cannot guarantee – what we can guarantee is that you will have solid foundations for a roll for life and have a clear idea of what you need to do to develop a confident roll in the future.
Rolling in Bigger Conditions
Being able to roll in calm water is one thing, being able to roll where it counts in the rough water is another. This session is all about developing a confident, relaxed roll in a more vibrant environment.
Incident Management 3 star and Incident Management 4 star
Both incident management courses are designed to teach you skills and procedures that will help you to develop a step by step thought process, to enable you to handle many potential incidents on the sea under pressure. With poor or no possible landings we will be forced to deal with sea sickness, dislocated shoulders, a trapped paddler, holes in boats, broken paddles, lost equipment, imploded hatch covers, hypothermia, very difficult landings, capsizing while towing amongst other bad things.
