Award Description
The Coastal Sea Kayak Award endorses your judgment, decision making and expertise and requires a good understanding of paddling on the sea.
Extended Award Description
You should be confident planning and undertaking journeys on the sea in winds up to and including force 4 and/or tides up to 2 Knots, in a sea kayak or specific sit on tops in tidal or non-tidal environments. Your confidence should be based upon both proficiency in skills and a broad appreciation of surroundings and environmental context. Your award should be seen as a sound basis for independently building the experience and expertise we associate with Advanced Sea Kayak Award holders.
What are the prerequisites to the Personal Performance Awards?
There are no entry requirements for any of the awards. However, it is expected that the candidate be at the appropriate level of skill, experience and knowledge for “an enjoyable and safe day out on the sea”.
How long does each of the Personal Performance Awards take?
There is no set or stipulated time for any of the Sea Kayak Awards, this is very much individual and we would see paddlers developing at their own pace with the support of an Instructor, Coach or Leader. We are delivering our course over a 3 day period, which should be sufficient time to accommodate all of the award content.
