This award is designed to develop your skills and ability to apply appropriate decision making for an enjoyable and safe day out on the sea.
Extended Award Description
The Sea Kayak Award endorses your skill, judgment and the decision making required for a successful day on the sea. You will be confident in planning and undertaking journeys on the sea, in winds up to and including force 3 and/or tides up to 1 Knot, using sea kayaks or sit on tops, in tidal or non-tidal environments, with proficient skills to be in control throughout. Your award should be seen as a sound basis for building the experience and knowledge associated with Coastal Sea Kayak Award holders.
What are the prerequisites to the Personal Performance Awards?
There are no entry requirements for any of the awards. However, it is expected that the candidate be at the appropriate level of skill, experience and knowledge for “an enjoyable and safe day out on the sea”.
How long does each of the Personal Performance Awards take?
There is no set or stipulated time for any of the Sea Kayak Award, this is very much individual and we would see paddlers developing at their own pace with the support of an Instructor, Coach or Leader. We are delivering our course over a 3 day period, which should be sufficient time to accommodate all of the award content.
Certification
Sea Kayak Award Certificates, are issued to successful candidate by British Canoeing following a recommendation from the course provider, and are subject to the relevant certification fees.
